Getting the Right Books to the Right Folks at the Right Time

At BookGive, we know that to begin reading and continue as a reader, we all need books that spark our interest and inspire our learning.

That’s why BookGive carefully curates the book collections we donate to community partners. For instance, one partner we serve is MotherWise, an organization with the mission to “empower women and their families to thrive during pregnancy and after a new baby is born.” MotherWise staff were thrilled when we showed up with four boxes of brand new board books, some of which were in Spanish.

And when Consuelo at ManorCare Health Services told us that their senior residents, most of whom had been isolated for over six weeks by that time, needed mysteries and history titles – and one large dictionary for “Chuck” – we delivered exactly the books that met their needs. To date, we’ve supplied ten senior living facilities from Aurora to Broomfield.

BookGive recently teamed up with Urban Peak, an impactful nonprofit that serves youth who are experiencing homelessness in the Denver Metropolitan Area. With guidance from Urban Peak’s staff, we made sure the books we gave them were ones the young people there could relate to and enjoy.

Jake Flanagan, Urban Peak’s Education Specialist, (pictured above) told us “the books were (and are) a huge success…these books were very well received compared to other books that we have. We have a decent amount of John Grisham and Tom Clancy style paperbacks and generally, youth are not super excited to read those.” He added that the “youth also expressed that the topics and themes of the books you donated were more on par with what they want to read. Some expressed liking that the books were relatable to their own demographics and thank you so much for that!”

Curating our book donations also allows us to respond to crucible moments in our community. Most recently, BookGive was able to nimbly answer the needs of our neighborhood by purchasing and donating a few hundred anti-racist titles. It’s crucial to our mission to get the right books to the right folks at the right time.
