We will oversee the placement of 10 book-sharing boxes\, choosing locations that will support diverse communities in Denver-area book deserts. Little Free Library supplies the boxes and 200 diverse books to launch each location. BookGive pledges to continue supplying books into the future. \nLess than 25% of children’s books depict non-white characters. Only 3.4% of books have a main character with a disability and 3.1% have a main character who identifies as queer. (Stats here.*) \nBookGive is firmly committed to making sure all readers see characters that represent marginalized groups and have access to authors bringing the full richness of human experience. The book industry has historically centered whiteness giving us all a skewed representation. We stand with Little Free Library’s strong pledge to read and share diverse books\, lifting up marginalized perspectives in publishing. \nOver the course of the summer\, we’ll be identifying ideal locations and working closely with partner organizations like schools\, community centers\, churches\, grocery stores and rec centers where diverse books would be most welcomed and needed. \nTo get involved\, email us!

Wrapping will be provided while supplies last. \nThis outdoor event is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Click here to RSVP!\n(It’s required.)\nALL VOLUNTEERS ARE INVITED to our very first in-person volunteer appreciation celebration! \nWhether you have volunteered one hour or a hundred\, last week or last year – you are WELCOME. Please join us. \nSAFETY is so important to all of us. We ask that only vaccinated volunteers attend. \nThe Denver Elks Lodge is providing us two spaces to maximize safety. One is outside with heat lamps. Yes\, it’ll be chilly on Nov 9\, so do bundle up. The other space is a huge indoor ballroom space made for WAY more people than our expected 50 or less. The CDC recommends masking indoors and/or keeping distance if you need to unmask for food and drink. We can handle that! \nBookGive offers up to two drinks for each volunteer at the bar. Food will be provided covid safe (no shared or open platter type stuff.) \nThere will be acknowledgments and some fun bookish games. With the BookGive service station – a 1940’s era gas station full of books – as the back drop\, bring your own chair and all your craziest suggestions to draw out the best on-the-spot comedy of the summer! \nComedy lovers are welcome to bring their own food and beverages or grab take out from our neighboring establishments. Light snacks are included with ticket. \nWild book games planned for intermission! \nAll proceeds from this event support BookGive’s mission to deliver free books to schools\, nonprofits and agencies throughout Denver-metro. DESCRIPTION:Come fill a bag with books to read over the summer. This outdoor event will take place at our service station\, 4890 Lowell Blvd. The event is free and open to the public. Masks required\, even for those who are vaccinated. \nOur vision is that every household in Denver has plenty of books for all the family to read. For children especially\, book ownership is correlated with better educational outcomes\, so we strive to place books into the hands of not just new readers\, but new book owners. \nWe have some cool bags to give away too\, so just come and fill ‘er up at the service station on May 15\, 10am-noon. Can’t wait to see you there! \nMade possible by hundreds of indivdual BookGive donors. \n

DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED DUE TO COVID RESTRICTIONS.\nat the BookGive Service Station\, 4890 Lowell Blvd. Denver\nIf buying gifts might be a little tougher this year\, BookGive invites you to our first Holiday Book Give-Away. \nBooks are always a welcomed gift. We have many that are literally brand new or in fine gift-worthy condition. Come browse for the loved ones on your list. We’ll include some free wrapping paper too\, while supplies last. \nNo need to prove your need. We get it. This year has been HARD. Just come get some free books to put under the tree\, by the menorah\, near the yule log\, in front of the Kwanza candles or however you exchange at the holidays. \nThis event WILL be outside\, so dress for the weather. Masks and distancing are required on our property. Gloves will be provided as needed. In the event of snow or rain\, the event will be canceled. \nWe are especially grateful to our donors and to BookBar supporters who make this event and much of what we do at BookGive possible. 10% of BookBar sales go to BookGive’s mission to make free books available to all who need them. SUMMARY:10th Annual Northwest Denver Community Book Exchange
DESCRIPTION:RESERVATIONS REQUIRED \nThis book-for-book community event started 10 years ago\, and we’re not letting a little pandemic stop us! \nFor safety\, we are hosting this event outdoors at the BookGive Service Station\, 4890 Lowell Blvd. Only 10 individuals will be allowed into the book exchange for each half hour shopping period. Every person in your party must have their own ticket for entry. Tickets are free. Reserve your tickets here. \nWe cannot accept textbooks\, encyclopedias\, comics\, and damaged or heavily annotated books. \nAll attendees\, staff and volunteers will be required to wear masks while they are on the property. Due to the fact that people may be touching various books\, gloves and hand sanitizer will be provided. Please keep this in mind when considering obtaining a ticket for anyone who may not be capable of keeping gloves on throughout the event. \nAt check-in\, we’ll count how many books you brought. You can then shop for that number of new-to-you books. For example\, if you bring five books\, you can take five books. Want to take more? No problem! You can make a financial donation to our nonprofit. \nThere will be TONS of books on tables outside the service station. The books available will have been processed more than 24 hours prior\, the amount of time recommended by the CDC and the Institute for Library and Museum Services. Attendees will be reminded upon entry to remain physically distanced while shopping. \nBookGive is a Denver nonprofit dedicated to literacy by delivering curated book collections to schools\, nonprofits and agencies through Denver metro. Your support makes it possible for us to get the right books to the right people. This event is free\, however your financial donations are always welcome.
